Aachener Heiligtumsfahrt

English

Welcome to Aachen!

The Cathedral of Aachen is one of the most famous examples of occidental architecture. It is the coronation church of more than 30 German kings, burial site of Charlemagne, major pilgrimage church and cathedral church of the Aachen diocese since 1930. In 1978 it was the 1st German building to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Charlemagne gave many relics to the cathedral, four of them are cloth relics which –according to legend– are closely connected to the life of Jesus Christ. Since the Middle Ages those cloths are shown to pilgrims every seven years.
Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims from all over Europe have come to Aachen during those centuries to come into contact with these cloth relics. And you are also invited to get on the road:

"Come and you will see!"
